Emergency Generators Are A Good Backup For Medical Devices

If you, or someone in your family, needs to have a medical device which needs power in order to live, including oxygen or certain monitors, it can be very worrisome when something comes up that may cut your power. Hurricanes, severe storms, ice storms, and blizzards are just some of the things that could knock out your power. Even if you are listed with the power company as a household that uses medical devices and are a priority to get power back, it can take some time to get your power back on. One way that you can make sure that you have power to those devices is to have an emergency generator. When power goes off, you can turn the generator on. There are several different options you can choose when you are getting a generator. 

Hardwired Generator

A hardwired generator is one that is wired into your home. They generally have sensors so that if your power goes off for a certain amount of time, the generator will kick on. How much of your house is powered depends on how big your generator is. You may have it set up so that it only powers your kitchen and the room where the medical devices are used. A generator like that doesn't have to be very big, so you should have no problems with disguising it if you want. You don't want to put it in an enclosed area unless it has a lot of ventilation because the exhaust will include carbon monoxide, which is deadly. 

Generator Fuels

Another option is what kind of fuel you want your generator to use. You can choose to use gasoline, diesel, or kerosene. The benefits of these fuels is that they are pretty easy to get a hold of since you can buy them all at your local gas station. However, if you choose to use them, you need to be aware that they may have a storage lifespan. If you store the fuel past that time, you run the risk of it getting moisture in it. Another option is to use propane. If you do this, you can choose to have a propane tank installed near your generator. The tank will make sure that you have fuel ready to go at all times.
